I’m a journalist and writer with a penchant for travel. I live in the Bay Area but grew up in the Midwest. My friends live all over the U.S. and even in different countries. Miles and continents may separate us, but it’s life’s stories that connect us.
I used to write for newspapers and magazines when I was starting out in the field. The whole industry changed since then and more people read news online. Some newspapers have managed not to go under, but they’ve had to adapt. The mainstream media of today is heavily skewed to one side or the other, and that’s not objective journalism. There’s too much of a strong bias for my taste. So I tend to read more indie news and places where you can hear a lot of different voices—not just the most popular ones that seem to get all the attention these days. If you take a gander at my site, you’ll soon find stories from far and wide.
Here’s another thing: The news affects different people in different ways, especially during a crisis. Only in recent weeks did I learn that for some people, including my friends, listening to coverage of the pandemic or discussing it, is difficult. Then I realized that I am not one of those people. I am a reporter, and these stories, like many others, need to be heard and told.
